Just relaxing over the holiday weekend and getting ready for summer or …

are you spending your time job hunting and it’s driving you a little crazy?

Pay attention to Grandma’s Tips:

  1. Make a plan for your life.

Don’t spend every day in job search.  Take a little time for yourself.  Relax or take a nice long walk.  You mental outlook will change immediately.

  1. Don’t put all your eggs in one basket.

Keep your options open.  Working the 9-5 grind may not be for you.

  1. Don’t allow rejection to get you down

Take charge of your own destiny.  Only you can make a difference in your life.

  1. Give yourself time to make a difference.

With any new opportunity it takes time to familiarize yourself with the new. Don’t expect change to happen overnight, but don’t give up when you get a set-back.  Watch for the little positives and build on those.

  1. Don’t ever settle for less than what you want

Opportunity is just around the corner.

Wishing you a great week.

Are you genuine?

Last week my nine year old granddaughter graduated from the third grade.  It was quite an honor for her and I loved the special “description” of Clarissa given by her teacher.  It was the word “genuine”.  In the dictionary the word genuine means “real” or not “counterfeit”.   What a profound statement to make about another individual.  Of course, knowing Clarissa as I do and as you have all come to know her, the word “genuine” is a true fit for her in more ways than one.

As we drove home after the program I found myself thinking of all the genuine things that Clarissa does and how refreshing it was to have this sweet child in my life.  Then I began to think about the people that I have worked with over the years, my current repertoire of friends and of course my immediate family.   I suddenly realized how very blessed I am with genuine people.  My life abound in real people.

My Business Associates in Empower Network?

But what about the people I work with every day?  I am pleased to say that this too holds true and valuable.  Each time I hear a work hangout or listen to a blog video, I am astonished as how lucky I am to be a part of a genuine company; a group of individuals that care about one another; a group of individuals that reach out to help another every day.

I hope you are as lucky as I am.  I hope you have those genuine people in your life.  These are people that listen and hear.  They sympathize but also empathize. Even though they may not have walked in your shoes, they will gladly put them on for a day.   They’re willing to feel what you feel in order to help you walk when you carry the weight of the world.

Know Thyself

But there is one other meaning of genuine and it applies to you.  What does it mean for you to be genuine?    If you are genuine not only will others recognize and respect you, but you will respect yourself.   Know thyself.  Self-respect is vital to being genuine and being genuine earns self-respect.

I had to share this little song from Clarissa as the video brought smiles to a gloomy week in Minnesota.

We have enjoyed the rain on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, etc. etc.  Yuck!  But then we can recall all the things we need the rain to accomplish.

“April showers bring May flowers” was one of my mom’s favorites.  Then of course we forget just how many colloquial sayings that involve rain:

Rain rain go away, come again another day.

Do you think the rain will hurt the rhubarb?

And the ever impassioned:  don’t rain on my parade.

Don’t rain on my parade is probably the most common, but what does it really mean?

It means don’t stomp on my flowers, don’t put water on my flame.  In other words, don’t bring your negative thoughts to my party of positives.

Have you ever been on an incredible high from something fantastic filling your space only to have “negative Nellie” come stomping through the room?  We’ve all been there.

When negative Nellie tries to stomp out your fire, add some fuel to keep it burning.   You get that fuel by supporting your team and getting support from them.

Participate in the valuable learning experience you get every day with the Extreme Team.   Share with your peers and learn from your mentors.  These people are making the big bucks.  Follow their lead and you’ll be there too.

Stay dry and keep fanning the flame of success.

Happy spring to all.   Moving forward to new heights and reaching new goals brings us out of the dead of winter and into new life.

With each passing day I learn that my struggles are only a blip on the screen of life when I face each new day with a positive attitude and a focus on my goals.

We may not always have a house full of roses but when we get that one special bouquet it brightens our day and fills our senses.  So drink in the euphoria of life and move forward to new beginnings.
